| Having designed a huge monolith sign for a private retreat, the team at Avery Brothers Sign Company of Sioux City, Iowa knew they would need a lightweight product that could be easily installed, yet remain durable over time. Having worked with Signs By Benchmark and its cellular plastic medium many times over the past years, the choice was obvious to Avery Brothers.
Working from Avery Brother’s design, the Signs By Benchmark team created the monolith measuring 25′ long x 8′ 4″ high. To ensure message visibility, 18″ high letters were carved 3/4″ into the sign face. To provide classic elegance, a faux limestone finish was applied. The majestic sign, nestled into a hillside, will ultimately be landscaped with surrounding natural stones flanked by high-flying flags. “We are very happy with the work Signs By Benchmark did on this sign,” said Steve Avery of Avery Brothers Sign Company. “The color and texture are realistically perfect. We wanted the lettering to look natural and it does. We are thrilled with Signs By Benchmark’s artistry. We have even had people ask us where we found that huge boulder!” As with every Signs By Benchmark product, the monolith was created from cellular plastic that was molded, then either CNC cut or then hand carved to design specifications. The entire piece is then sealed in Signs By Benchmark’s signature hard coat for lasting strength and durability.
