Community Welcome Sign Captures Local Scenic Features

When the community of Redwood Falls, Minn., decided on new welcome signage, portraying local natural beauty was their main goal. To gain a visual representation, they commissioned a local artist to paint a rendition of a sign that would reflect geographical features.

Based on the painting, city officials ordered a sign, but it just didn’t capture the essence of the project. “Then I was driving through Renville Minn.,” stated Clint Knorr of Redwood Area Chamber & Tourism. “I saw the welcome signs there and found they were created by Signs By Benchmark. So I visited their facility where I was impressed with their professionalism and capabilities.”

Presented with the art, the creative staff at Signs By Benchmark rose to the challenge by first converting the painting into digital artwork. “The trick was to physically view the actual art, then transform it digitally while keeping all features in proportion,” stated Jamie Kakacek, Signs By Benchmark designer. “The scale of the reproduction had to match that of the original.”

The result is a double-sided monument style sign that rests majestically upon a base of native rock. Measuring 22′ wide x 9′ 8″ high x 4′ deep, the sign features handcrafted faux stone and stylized lettering. Encountering the sign at the city entrance, visitors can’t help but catch the spirit of the scenic community.
